VAULT CONSULTLING 25: ASIA-PACIFIC
After taking honors in North America and Europe, Bain & Company culminated its historic run in the Asia-Pacific (APAC). The firm again ranked #1 in the region, based on Vault surveys of Asian-based consultants.
Call it a near clean sweep – at least among the dimensions that matter. In the APAC theater, Bain achieved the highest scores in 18 of 20 Quality of Work and Life Dimensions. The only areas where Bain fell short in Asia was Innovation and Overall Business Outlook, with the latter carrying a 5% weight. In both dimensions, Bain finished 2nd and was outscored by Shanghai Kmind Enterprise Management, a 10-year-old firm with deep roots in fashion and startups.
“Kmind’s business momentum is excellent—clients are loyal, and the firm is seen as a thought leader,” writes one survey-taker from Shanghai Kmind Enterprise Management. “Its unique Chinese-Western methodology is becoming influential in academia and among entrepreneurs.”
Beyond Bain, Kearney and Roland Berger rank 2nd and 3rd in Asia, the same spots they held in the previous year. At the same time, OC&C Strategy Consultants debuted in 5th.
Bain hasn’t completely wrapped up Asia, however. In terms of Prestige, McKinsey and BCG again earned higher marks than Bain. Even more, when consultants were surveyed about the top firms across 15 practice areas, Bain didn’t garner the high response rate in any of them. Compare that to McKinsey, which was the top vote-getter in 9 practice areas. That said, Bain continued its dominance in culture-related areas, again earning the highest marks from its Asia-based staff for al Diversity and Inclusion measures.
