QUALITY OF EMPLOYMENT AND LIFE RANKINGS (NORTH AMERICA)
Call it crunch time…when consultants share exactly how they feel about their firms. Forget the ‘anonymous’ HR employee survey. In the Vault Consulting 50, respondents don’t have to hold back.
That’s the best part of the Consulting 50. Not only do employees score their firm, but they also provide commentary on where their firms could improve. For Vault readers, that means they can compare firms against each other to see the patterns that emerge. Even more, they can read the “why’s” behind the scoring from the people who operate in these firms day-after-day.

TRY A LITTLE TRANSPARENCY
Take Overall Business Outlook, where SciVida leads the pack with a 9.703 average .069 of a point ahead of BCG. What sets SciVida apart? For one, says a Vault survey respondent, the firm is very transparent.
“The firm is extremely busy in a time where many other firms are not. Client satisfaction surveys sent out after each engagement support the strong and ongoing relationship that SciVida has built with each client. The entire firm is presented with business updates monthly showing the status of pipeline opportunities. This keeps the team aware of upcoming work and of how well the firm is doing as a whole.”
Another example is Level of Challenge, where Grant Thornton Stax takes top honors. Behind the firm’s 9.614 score, the Vault survey supplies some reasoning behind its success.
“One of the biggest strengths of career development at Stax is the early exposure to high-impact work and the ability to take on meaningful responsibility quickly,” writes one consultant. “Even at the consultant level, I’ve had direct interaction with clients, opportunities to present findings, and the chance to lead key workstreams. This hands-on experience accelerates learning and builds a strong foundation in core consulting skills.”
One reason why Grant Thornton Stax can throw consultants into the deep end, adds another survey-taker, is the firm supplements this strategy with intensive and ongoing training from the start.
“Training and mentorship are core strengths. We combine structured learning, including onboarding, skills-based training, and leadership development programs, with extensive on-the-job learning and informal coaching. Because project teams are lean and collaborative, junior and mid-level team members work closely with senior leadership, gaining direct exposure to strategic thinking and client engagement approaches.”

BIG CHANGES AT THE TOP
As a whole, Grant Thornton Stax collected two 1st place finishes: Level of Challenge and International Opportunities. This year’s leader was Bain & Company, which ranked #1 across six dimensions: Compensation, Firm Culture, Formal Training, Informal Training, Promotion Policies, and Selectivity. The Boston Consulting Group made it to the top spot in four dimensions: Benefits, Health & Wellness, Innovation, and Relationships with Supervisors. ghSMART achieved the same feat in three dimensions (Hours, Overall Satisfaction and Work-Life Balance). SciVida (Firm Leadership and Overall Business Outlook) and Putnam (Internal Mobility) were also represented at the podium.
Compared against the 2025 results, the surveys showed several changes. There were changes in the top spot across 15 dimensions: Compensation, Firm Culture, Firm Leadership, Health & Wellness, Hours in the Office, Interaction with Clients, Internal Mobility, International Opportunities, Level of Challenge, Overall Business Outlook, Promotion Policies, Relationships with Supervisors, Overall Satisfaction, Selectivity, and Work-Life Balance. The rankings were so fluid that 11 dimensions saw changes in 2nd place, with Overall Business Outlook consisting of four entirely different firms in the Top four against the previous year.
